'X' indicates unknown function for early molecular markers, but was dropped as noted in the Introduction of the Catalog of Gene Symbols for Wheat. Synonyms were added to AFLP markers that were in GrainGenes in maps published after 2001. These markers are preceeded with a 'W'. By adding synonyms to the markers, the functionality of cMap is improved.
