Abstract
The experimental material consisted of 2 hybrid populations of Triticum durum , obtained as a result of crossing 3 morphologically different forms. The maternal forms were the Austrian cultivar Astrodur (var. leucomelan ) and the Argentinian Buck Cristal (var. leucurum ). The paternal form in both crossings was a Polish line LGR 39/772/90/a/b (var. candicans ). Generation F SUB 2 to F SUB 6 underwent a detailed analysis. For each crossing combination, coefficients of phenotypic correlation, coefficients of variability, broad sense heritability and genetic progress were calculated taking into consideration plant height, spike length, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, number of grains per spikelet, grain weight per spike and 1000 grains weight. A high variation was noticeable with regards to the values of all analysed traits, while the level of the coefficient of variability and of correlation was dependent on the different features as well as on the crossing combination and the generation. High values of heritability coefficient and genetic progress for number and weight of grains per spike were achieved in the combination in which the maternal form was the Argentinian cultivar Buck Cristal. It can be assumed that this cultivar is a good carrier of a high level of the above mentioned features
