Timely planting was made into a good seedbed, although some soil compaction, caused by later excessive rainfall, resulted in some slight emergence difficulties. The more than ample rainfall, during the growing season, promoted good plant growth and tillering. Test weights were reduced by severe lodging and high temperatures during the filling period. Crown rust infection started out normal, but was cooked off during the hot weather, making evaluations difficult. BYDV infection was higher than normal, but on an almost random basis throughout the nursery.
