The soil moisture was adequate early in the growing season; however, it deteriorated as the season progressed. Temperatures were cooler than normal. Stem rust infections appeared very late in the growing season, probably having a minimal effect on yield. The deteriorating soil moisture conditions later in the growing season favored earlier maturing varieties and lines.
