This is a blackening condition transerred from Yaroslav emmer to Hope wheat by Mcfadden at the same time as stem-rust resistance was transferred. The association of this condition with mature-plant stem-rust reaction has been noted in a number of papers. According to Kuspira and Unrau, (1958), the condition is recessive. Pan (1940) believed linkage with stem-rust reaction could be broken.
