Abstract
Three sets of preliminary trials of winter wheat strains were conducted to analyse yield performance and genotype-environment interactions. The magnitude of particular interactions was measured by means of index of variability. This index consists of the phenotypic coefficient of variability and the portion of respective variance component (GL) or (GS). The index of interaction and genetic effects of yield were changed into 5-degree scale (5 is the highest yield or the lowest interaction). In particular, groups of trials above half of phenotypic variance could be attributed to the genotype-environment interactions. One-year analysis of particular trials was shown to be unsatisfactory for selection of new cultivars of winter wheat. Two- and three-year analyses were compared. It was shown that two-year analysis was sufficient for assessing new strains of winter wheat. However, this conclusion requires confirmation with similar elaborates
