Abstract
Research on the significance of the Mlo resistance in protection of barley (Hordeum vulgare) against powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f.sp. hordei Erysiphe graminis f.sp. hordei) has been successively growing. This type of resistance is very effective and is commonly used in breeding programmes in Europe. In this paper, the current knowledge of the genetics, phenotype and mechanism of the Mlo resistance, including the results of recent molecular studies, is reviewed
