Abstract
The allelic variation of high molecular weight (HMW) glutenin subunit loci in Glu -1 was analysed in 40 newly-bred wheat cultivars using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Ten HMW glutenin subunits were identified: 3 alleles were at the Glu-A 1 locus, 5 were at the Glu-B 1 and 2 were at the Glu-D 1 locus. The most common alleles were Null, 7 + 8 and 2 + 12, with frequencies of 54.3, 51.4 and 62.9%, respectively. Two novel HMW subunits, designated as 1By8 and 1Dx5 were observed in the advanced line 13489 and the cultivar Wanmai 38. The mean of Nei's genetic variation index at the Glu -1 was 0.5648. The highest diversity was observed at the Glu-B 1 loci, while the lowest was at the Glu-D 1 loci. Seventeen HMW glutenin subunit combinations were observed at the Glu -1 loci and the combinations Null, 7 + 8 and 2 + 12 comprised 31.4%. Nine combination groups have only one genotype each with the frequency of 26.1%
