Abstract	A 2-component Ac/Ds activation tagging system with two 35S promoters and 4 tandem repeats of the enhancer fragment of the promoter within the Ds element was introduced in rice genome. Results from analysis of 100 T SUB 0 transgenic plants showed that the somatic excision frequencies of Ds were high, up to 60%. Fourteen out of 20 T SUB 1 plant lines showed excision frequencies in the range 43-100%. Southern hybridization analysis showed that similar bands and different bands were observed among plants of the same T SUB 1 line and the different bands were about 10% in all analysed T SUB 1 plant lines
