Abstract
Using PCR amplification, the coding sequences of a novel low-molecular-weight glutenin gene, LM-WCN16-2 (GenBank No. AY296753), was isolated from the genomic DNA of wheat cultivar Chuannong 16. The full coding region of this gene was composed of 906 nucleotides, and could be translated into a protein of 301 amino acids. LM-WCN16-2 is a typical low-molecular-weight glutenin subunit (LMW-GS) gene. The deduced amino acid sequences comparison suggested that LMWCN16-2 had a high degree of identity with the reported LMW-GS genes, especially those of which encoded by the Glu-A3 locus. It is necessary to clarify the chromosomal localization of this gene and its effect on baking quality in wheat
