Abstract
Drought-resistant and drought-susceptible wheat cultivars were used to investigate their lower canopy temperature and some physiological characteristics by measuring their corresponding canopy temperature, net photosynthetic rate and duration of function leaves, activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content. The results showed that canopy temperature was continuously lower in drought-resistant wheat cultivars than in drought-susceptible ones, especially during kernel-filling period. Many of the physiological characteristics such as the functional period of leaves, net photosynthetic rate, SOD activity and MDA content in the former were superior to those in the latter. Therefore, the low canopy temperature could be used as an index to evaluate physiological capacities and to be applied to the breeding and high-yield production of wheat in dry region
