Abstract
The chromosome member possessing the gene that involve the synthesis of a synthetic enzyme of mugineic acid (MA) was identified using wheat (cv. Chinese Spring)-Barley (cv. Betzes) addition lines. Six addition lines, Chinese Spring wheat and Betzes barley plats were water-cultured and chlorosis was induced by depletion of Fe from the culture medium. The root-washing from each plant was collected and analyzed with HPLC to detect mugineic acid-family phytosiderophores (MAs). Chinese Spring wheat secreted only deoxy-MA, while Betzes barley secreted epihydroxy-MA, MA and deoxy-MA. Only Add-4 among the six wheat-barley addition lines secreted both MA and deoxy-MA. Therefore, the No. 4 chromosome of Betzes barley was concluded to have the the gene which encode MA-synthesis from deoxy-MA.
