The gene Xantha-f has been identified to code for the 150 kDa subunit of protoporphyrin IX-Mg-chelatase while the Xantha-h gene encodes the 42 kDa subunit of this enzyme. The Xantha-g gene encodes a third protein required for insertion of Mg^++ into protoporphyrin.
