Over a number of years the senior author has developed a set of multiple recessive and dominant genetic marker stocks. The primary material consists of a master recessive line, a master dominant, and several other stocks based in part on the master recessive, carrying recessive alleles specific for each of the seven chromosomes of barley. There are seven genetic male steriles, seven dwarfs, and five surface wax mutants. The recessive alleles of a few extra genes have been incorporated into these. See Table 1 for a list of contrasting alleles between the master recessive and master dominant, and Table 2 for a list of available combinations in the chromosome specific stocks.

Over the last few years we have been producing doubled haploids from a cross between the master recessive and master dominant. Prior to their production the two parents were also doubled. About 110 doubled haploid progeny are presently under increase.

¹The many noded gene (mnd,,c) is probably not on chromosome 2. Dr. J. Franckowiak did not find any linkage with chros 2 markers when backcrossing chromosome 2 genes of these stocks into Bowman. Many noded (mnd,,c mnd,,c) plants have been hard to grow in the greenhouse, and in the field are several days later heading and have smaller heads than their normal counterparts.
²The ert-b trd combination produces plants that are slow to head and suffer from head encasement in the flag leaf sheath.
³'corn stalk' (cs) produces variable tiller necrosis. Occasionally a large single tillered plant results.
