NEW FORMAT/TABLES

There is a new format for the entry lists beginning this year. These changes simplify the
lists and clarify the origin of entries.
The requirement for 8 character entry names has been dropped. This was a
requirement of the old analysis software that is no longer in use. We are attempting to use the
entry names as provided by the cooperator, which makes for shorter names. We have
eliminated the extra 0's used to reach 8 characters if those are not part of the entry name used
by the cooperator, so be aware of this when comparing entries from one year to another.
Tables 3, 18, and 32 are new. They report the mean and ranking of agronomic data
across locations. Only those traits with multiple location data are included.
Additional entries included by the cooperator are shown in the individual location tables
without an entry number. I encourage all cooperators to include local checks, if appropriate.

 PROGRAM CHANGES

 From Jim Anderson, USDA-ARS, Pullman:
Germplasm from the Oregon club wheat breeding program, based in Pendleton, is now
under the direction of the USDA-ARS Wheat Genetics, Disease, Quality, and Physiology Unit in
Pullman. A total of 430 lines in yield trials and more than 10,000 early generation lines were
added to our project in the Fall of 1996. We are coordinating the evaluation of this germplasm
in Oregon and Washington locations. Karen Morrow, an OSU technician based in Pendleton, is
being supported by ARS funds and is responsible for the Oregon locations.
